RECEIVER MOUNTED WEIGHTS IMPROVE TRACTION ON SNOW AND ICE
TRUCK TRACTION carries extra weight aft of the rear bumper to provide traction when you need it. There are several advantages over sand bags or other ballast carried inside the bed.
1. Weight is carried farther aft to provide the maximum down force on the rear tires.
2. Weight stays in place rather than moving toward the cab as in bed weight usually does.
3. Does not interfere with cargo.

In addition to solving the problems listed above, receiver mounting places the weight farther aft, behind the bumper. The farther back the weight is located, the more effective it is for improving traction.

If you would like even more economy the mount is available without the concrete. Weight of the mount is 48 lbs, and you can add the concrete. An 80 lb concrete mix costs abut $3.30 at Home Depot or Lowe's. The total weight will be 110 lb.

Record Setting Christmas Eve Snowstorm

On Christmas Eve, 2009, we drove the company 2wd Ford Ranger from the hills east of Norman, OK to south of Gainsville, TX and returned. The trip was made during the afternoon and evening, during the worst of the storm. That was about 275 miles in the record setting snowstorm with 40-60 mph winds and heavy traffic. We experienced two problems, near zero visibility and stalled vehicles all over I-35. There was never a problem maintaining enough traction to start and to move forward and maneuver around the stalled vehicles. We had the weight where it should be, behind the bumper. Total added weight was about 110 lbs. That is less than two sandbags, but the weight is located more effectively. With receiver mounting installation and removal are very fast.
